PINTEREST POWER FOR KIDLIT ILLUSTRATORS!

Pinterest, a popular, free platform for image sharing and bookmarking, has long held a unique place on the Web. It's a visual search engine distinguished by evergreen content.

If Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok
are social media's noisy bars where posts are soon lost and forgotten, Pinterest is the library where content gets indexed, sorted and distributed to those who are looking for it.

This makes Pinterest ideal for the publishing and art worlds, suggests PinLit founder Debbie Gonzales
"It's perfectly designed to showcase the nuances and artistic techniques incorporated in one’s portfolio," she says.

"With the wide range of pin-crafting options available – Video, Static, and Video Pins to name just a few – the only limitation for self-expression is an illustrator's creative mind."

Debbie Gonzales will show you how Pinterest can enhance your online visibility and drive viewers to your website. Debbie is a children's book author, educator, former SCBWI regional advisor and founder of PinLit, the Pinterest marketing agency for kid lit creators and publishers.

Book Trailer Basics with Debbie Gonzales

Book trailers are short and interesting because they focus on the highlights of a book without giving the entire story away. The purpose of these mini-films is to capture the attention of the viewer and get them interested in reading the book. To make a book trailer, its creator must have a solid understanding of the story’s beginning, middle, and end, as well as four basic elements that make the project great. Those four basic elements are character, setting, conflict, and a hook. In this Zoom session, Deb will demonstrate how to distill elements of story into a brief 45 to 90 second vides rendition.

2019 Laker Writing Camps

The Lake Michigan Writing Project is proud to announce our annual Laker Writing Camps! For one week, your future novelist, poet, or journalist will have the chance to explore the wonders of writing with some of West Michigan’s finest teachers!

Our Laker Writing Camps offers students an opportunity to explore many styles of writing in a fun environment.  With students returning each morning to the exciting environment, students participate in activities that create a community of writers and provide nurturing support for developing authors. To prompt writing, campers and facilitators may travel from their camp site to various age-appropriate places of interest, learning and inspiration.

Teachers plan writing activities that build confidence while providing the writing tools that inspire creative thinking and author’s craft. Campers write a variety of pieces such as poems, autobiographical sketches, short stories, and nature observations while engaging in the writing process of drafting, revising, responding and editing. Finally, each camper will choose a piece of his or her writing for publication in the camp anthology.

The Laker Writing Camp is an outreach effort of the LMWP to encourage and nurture young writers. Our staff consists of Lake Michigan Writing Project Teacher-Consultants who have been identified as outstanding teachers of writing and nurturing role models for our campers.
